Ａ：affectとは、「影響する」「作用する」。affectした「結果」がeffect
affectとは、物事や人（の心）に「作用して変化をもたらす」、つまり「影響する」ことです。influenceも「影響する」ですが、affectは病気が人を「冒す」など、多くは「（悪）影響を与える」というニュアンスで使われます。何かが人の心に「影響する」場合は、その人の心に「印象を残す」「感動させる」ことで、多くはbe affected byと受動態で使われます。このaffectの名詞形は、affection（愛情、情愛）です。affectと形も発音も意味も似た単語にeffectがあり、ネイティブでもよく混同します。ある原因（cause）が影響（affect）することで結果・効果（effect）が生じるという関係で、

可能性

例文：He can be very rude.（彼はとても無礼なときがある）
「彼は無礼に振る舞う可能性をもっている」という意味です。実際それまでに彼は無礼に振る舞ったことがあり、それを根拠として彼は無礼に振る舞う可能性をもっているとみなされているわけです。可能性の否定
例文：A “Here’s your bill, sir.” B “100 dollars! That can’t be right.”（Ａ「こちらがお勘定になります」、Ｂ「100ドルだって！？そんなはずはないよ」）
「その請求額が正しい可能性はない」という意味です。canが否定形で用いられる際には、可能性を否定することになるので「～のはずがない」のような強い表現になります。 許可/能力・・・省略命令
例文：If you won’t keep quiet, you can get out.（どうしても静かにしないなら、出ていってくれてもいいのよ） 「あなたは出ていくことも可能ですよ」で「出ていってくれてもいいのよ」という意味になります。外に出ていく可能性を提示して促すことで、婉曲的に命令のニュアンスを表現しています。
まとめdrop/fall/failの違い
drop(ドロップ)…(真)下に物が落ちる、物を落とす(失う)。fall(フォール)…(ふわりと)直線的、曲線的に落ちる、人や物などが倒れる。fail(フェイル)…試験やテストに落ちる(失敗する)。
be dependent on～ と depend on のちがい
経済的に頼っている、というような場合（扶養しているとか、子供とか、～なしではやっていけない）という意味で言えば一緒です。
しかしbe dependent on～
は殆どそういった意味に限定されて使用するのに対し、
depend on
のほうは、～による、～しだいであるという意味合いがありこちらのほうによく使用されます。
Whether he is accepted for the job depends on the test result.といった用法。
