Lovely Lorraine Abellana

I am quite exposed to public speaking as I have been hosting seminars and workshops within our town.

I also worked as a public speaker hosting seminars and workshops for kids and adults within our municipality. During my free time, I read books and draw the characters and setting based on my imagination.

At the previous Lesson.

Cooking videos
A new way for people to learn how to cook is through watching cooking videos on Youtube. Instead of using cookbooks, one can share recipes and tips on their videos. They can also record step-by-step procedures for their viewers. People can watch anywhere and pause at any convenient time. Such videos can encourage people to cook at home, so many people watch cooking videos.

直接話法か間接話法か

I learned that there are two ways to convey the content of a conversation. Direct speech and indirect speech.

Which of the following statements is proper for this question?

・She said to her father “I am going to bake a cake. " (Direct speaking)
・The girl told her father that she was going to bake a cake. (Indirect speaking)

He was thinking that she needed some strawberries to decorate the cake, so he went to the store to buy some ones.

She was very pleased to complete the whole cake decorated with strawberries

The father was thinking of preparation of two cups of tea during tasting the cake.

I agree. I think teaching basic cooking is necessary at school. Not only how to cook but also how to use kitchen tools as well as knives, pans and ovens must be dispensable for living on. Exaggeratedly speaking, these learnings would prevent us from starving crises.

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I prayed that God would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hopes apart
And they turn your dreams to shame

And still I dream he'd come to me
That we would live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream, I dreamed

So the poem you showed me was a song from the famous play "Les Misérables". The way you sang the lyrics were exactly how Fantine (played by Lea Salongga) sang them during the show.

The first stanza focuses on the aspects of naive first love and the seduction that leads to a troubled future.

The second stanza describes how Fantine has deluded herself with empty dreams, and she hoped that God would not hold her accountable for her foolish behavior.

The tigers in the third stanza represent preying older men who seduce and impregnate young women and then abandon them.

The fourth stanza illustrates unrequited love — a woman who is hopelessly in love with a man who is simply using her as a plaything, walking away from her when he gets bored.

seduction / temtation
delude / fantasize
accountable
prey
impregnate / pregnant
plaything
he gets bored
