「助ける」という意味のhelpの構文では、必ず人が目的語となり、「Help + 原型不定詞（動詞の原形）」または、「Help + 不定詞」の形をとります。
（〇）A. (原型不定詞）They helped me paint the kitchen.
（〇）B. (不定詞) They helped me to paint the kitchen.
| ※ 上記、A, Bはどちらも正しい構文ですが、実際にはA（Help + 原型不定詞）の方がより一般的に使われています。 |
（×）C. (動名詞）They helped me painting the house. （Help + 動名詞は誤り）
「役立つ」という意味の構文。人を主語にはとりませんが、同様に「Help + 原型不定詞」 または、「Help + 不定詞」の形をとります。動名詞は使えません。
（〇）D. (原型不定詞)The new program helped improve students’ speaking skills.
（〇）E. (不定詞)The new program helped to improve students’ speaking skills.
（×）F. (動名詞）The new program helped improving students’ speaking skills. （Help + 動名詞は誤り）

Help + 動名詞 – 「~せずにはいられない、~せざる得ない」
「～せずにはいられない」「~せざる得ない」とう意味の”Can’t help ～ing“という構文においては、必ずHelp + 動名詞の形になります。
(〇) F. (動名詞）I can’t help waking up early.
早起きせざるを得ない。
(〇) G. (動名詞）I can’t help watching that TV show.
そのテレビ番組を見ずにいられない。
