Many Young Americans Think They Don't Need College

Many young Americans think that a high school diploma is enough for success, according to a survey by The Associated Press.

The survey included 2,573 teenagers and young adults aged 13 to 29. About half of those surveyed said that a high school education could give them enough skills to find a good job after they leave school, and 45% said that a high school diploma could prepare them for success in the future.

However, some experts don’t agree. "With a high school diploma alone, it's very hard to earn the kind of [money] one would need to support a family," said Thomas Brock from the Community College Research Center at Columbia University.

In 2018, the average pay for US workers with only a high school diploma was $730 a week, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. For those with a bachelor's degree, it was $1,200, while those with a master's degree made $1,400 a week.

Six in ten young Americans see a bachelor’s degree as a route to success, but the same number said that vocational education – where students train to be things like chefs, mechanics, or hairdressers – could also lead to success.

Nearly 8 in 10 said the cost of college is a serious problem, and a lot said they were worried about debt. Of those with college plans, most said they were borrowing or planning to borrow money to pay for it.

One of the biggest political issues in Japan is how to improve the declining babies birthrate. Recently the average number of children of young couples is less than two, accuratly accurately 1.44. It is certain that the population of Japan will decrease in the near future rapidly. It has a great reflection on economic and welfare activities. Our government has promised that education will be free, and from this year, tuition fees for kindergartens and nurseries have become free. To avoid the young couples worry concerning the cost of bringing up the children.
