POINT

・〈先行詞, who [which]〉 という力ンマ付きの関係代名詞は, 関係代名詞の 非制限用法と呼ばれます。
・ヵンマで文をいったん区切り, 先行詞やヵンマの前までの部分に補足のの説明を加えるはたらきです。
・非制限用法ではthatが使えず, 目的格であつても省略することはできません。
・これまでのカンマのない関係代名詞の用法は 「制限用法」 と呼ばれます。
・非制限用法で便える関係副詞は Where とWhen だけです。 how とWhyには非制限用法はありません。

 


My Best Friend
1.  I first met my best friend in 2001 when we entered high school. 
2.  We were in New York, where we studied. 
3.  We were in the same class. 
4.  We have the same likes and dislikes, which made us closer. 
5.  We made good memories, which made us even closer to each other. .  6.  I am studying in Japan now and my best friend is studying in Paris. 
7.  She’s taking up Interior Design. 
8.  I want to go to Paris, where my best friend lives. 
9.  I want to visit her and explore the place. 
10.  I want to visit museums there. I want to visit the renowned Louvre. 
11.  This museum has the Mona Lisa painting, which has been displayed there since 1797.

1. 私が親友に初めて会ったのは、2001 年に高校に入学したときでした。
2. 私たちはニューヨークにいて、そこで勉強しました。
3. 私たちは同じクラスでした。
4. 私たちは好き嫌いが同じなので、より親密になりました。
5. 私たちは良い思い出を作り、それによって私たちはさらに親密になりました。 。
6. 私は今日本に留学中で、親友はパリに留学しています。
7. 彼女はインテリアデザインを勉強しています。
8. 親友のいるパリに行きたいです

9. 彼女を訪ねてその場所を探検したいです。

1. The word "dislike" is used both as a noun and as a verb. Its meaning is the complete opposite of "like".

4. We can use "famous" instead of "renowed" as an adjective.

5. The exibition of Louvre was held in our city a couple years ago, where master pieces of  Leonardo da Vinci were displyed.

 

 

関係代名詞の制限用法と非制限用法の表現の違い

①He has two daughters who are studying music.
②He has two daughters, who are studying music.

①のwho are studying musicはdaughters を限定的に修飾しています。①を訳すと、「彼には音楽を勉強している2人の娘がいる」となります。 この場合注意しなくてはいけないのは、「彼には音楽を勉強している娘が2人いるが、そのほかにも娘がいる可能性がある」ということです。
例えば、He has two daughters who are studying music and three daughters who are studying math.
「彼には音楽を勉強している娘が2人と数学を勉強している娘が3人いる」

 ⇒つまり5人の娘がいる可能性だってあるということです。

これに対して②の非制限用法は先行詞について補足的に説明を補う用法です。
この文ではまずHe has two daughters「彼には娘が2人いる」ということを述べ、その2人の娘に関する情報として
,who are studying music 「彼女たちは音楽を勉強している」ということをつけ加えています。

⇒「彼には2人娘がいて、彼女たちは音楽を勉強している」と訳せば文意が明確になりますね。
